Star Lake Diabetes Management Workshop
A free, six-session workshop series for people living with diabetes will be hosted at the Clifton-Fine Community Center beginning Wednesday, Sept. 17.
The Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP) will be administered by Wilderness HealthCare and Clifton-Fine Hospital, and hosted at the Clifton-Fine Community Center, located at 4208 State Route 3 in Star Lake.
The first session will be held from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17, with five additional sessions slated for the same time every Wednesday through Oct. 22. To sign up for free, visit https://bit.ly/starlakedsmp.
This workshop series will teach participants a range of strategies that can enhance their health and help better manage diabetes. Topics include:
- Enhancing strength and endurance through suitable exercises
- Glucose monitoring for daily decision-making and sick day management
- Promoting healthy eating habits
- Understanding proper medication usage
- Enhancing collaboration with healthcare professionals
- Suggested tests for preventing or delaying complications
- Ensuring adequate foot care
- Developing action plans, solving problems and making decisions

This workshop is offered at no cost to individuals or caregivers. It’s one of many offered through the Get Healthy North Country Community (GHNC) Integrated Health Network, a coalition of medical and behavioral health providers, public health units, area offices for the aging, social care agencies, and other interested organizations that collaborate to bring health and wellness support programs to the people that need them most. The network is facilitated by The Heart Network and includes over 30 member organizations and a growing number of program hosts from across nine counties in northern New York.
